Founder, Managing Partner


Joseph W. Madison, Jr. is a founding member and Managing Partner of The Castlewood Select Funds, LLC.  He is co-head of the investment committee and serves as COO and CFO of the firm.


Mr. Madison has 25 years of Wall Street experience, including securities and portfolio analysis, proprietary equity trading, market-making, sales and marketing.


Prior to establishing The Castlewood Select Funds, LLC, Mr. Madison was a portfolio analyst working with the high-net worth client group at Smith Barney & Upham in New York.  In 1991 he joined Bernard L. Madoff & Co. where he was a market maker of listed equities and proprietary trader in the firm's trading unit.  Upon leaving Madoff in October 1998 he joined institutional equity trading operations at Legg Mason in Baltimore, MD.  Mr. Madison also served as the Marketing Manager responsible for the Flavor & Fragrance Ingredients business in North America for BASF AG.


Mr Madison is a 1984 graduate of William Paterson University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration with honors in International Management and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics.  He also earned his Masters of Business Administration in Finance from NYU's Stern School of Business in 1993.


Joe lives with his wife and two daughters in Northern New Jersey.



Mark Wittenstein

Founder, Managing Partner


Mark Wittenstein is a Managing Partner and co-founding member of Princeton NJ based The Castlewood Select Funds, LLC, where he serves as CCO and co-head of the investment committee.


He has spent his entire 30 year career in the field of financial services.


Mr. Wittenstein began his career in 1984 as an agent of Northwestern Mutual Life and Robert W. Baird & Co.  In 1986, he joined Fidelity Investments in New York working with high-net-worth clients in the Wall Street Retail Investor Center. In 1993, he was named Vice President of Sales for the Fidelity Institutional Wealth Advisor business, a leading provider of custody and brokerage services, where for the last 20 years he has been a business consultant both regionally and nationally to support the needs of fee based Registered Investment Advisors and Family Offices.


His broad experience coupled with his in-depth knowledge of the needs of advisory firms affords him exceptional insight into the dynamics of portfolio and risk management, back office operations, and compliance in this rapidly evolving marketplace.


Mr. Wittenstein graduated from the State University of New York at Albany in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and later earned a Masters of Business Administration in Finance from NYU's Stern School of Business in 1993.


Mark and his wife Amy have been married since 1988 and have three children, Matthew, Taylor, and Jason.


Mark is also on the Executive Committee and the Board of Overseers of the Duke Cancer Institute.
